Good afternoon! We are already at week 3! I have enjoyed getting to know your child these past two weeks and we are ready to dive into Reading, Writing, and Social Studies.
This week we will be working on Writing on Monday and Reading on Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday. For writing today, we talked about how writing doesn't have to be about something big or special, or a magical story. You can write about just about anything. We talked about writing about personal experiences (big or small) and turning those personal experiences into a story. This week in Reading we will be learning about inferring. Inferring is using clues from the text to figure something out that the author does not tell you. Check under the vocabulary tab for a more descriptive definition. We will begin reading our Story Works Jr. this week. Story Works Jr. is a magazine filled with stories, fiction and nonfiction, that we will be using to teach and learn different skills and strategies in class. The story this week and continuing into next week is called "The Big One." Vocabulary words for this story are also under the vocabulary tab.
In Social Studies this week, we will be discussing why it is important to learn history, where South Carolina is located, AND what does the land in South Carolina look like.
Check your child's agenda for a homework sheet. Homework is due on Fridays. Look under the Homework tab for extra copies.
Have a great week! :)
